Recycled Materials
CUSTOM® Building Products uses post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled materials whenever possible in manufacturing products. Look for our Build Green® logo to find products made with recycled materials. Utilizing recycled materials helps conserve natural resources and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. The use of lightweight recycled materials in our CustomLite® products helps to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
Durability
Ceramic tile is known for its durability and long life over other floor covering options. CUSTOM Building Products designs highly durable products with up to Lifetime Warranties that reduce the need for frequent replacement and provide the installation with a long life cycle.
LEED® Credit Contribution
While the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) does not certify products, the use of any of more than 100 of CUSTOM products will contribute to LEED certification of the project.

CUSTOM® Building Products Emerald System takes environmental responsibility beyond the current standard. The Emerald System is the complete system of environmentally responsible CUSTOM products for all surface preparation, setting solutions, and grout products. It expands our Build Green® program by addressing some key issues related to the practice of green building products:

Our Emerald System takes environmental responsibility to a whole new level
It is difficult to sort through the various building industry agency regulations and determine what is required to be “green”. There are voluntary and mandatory standards; some communities have adopted one standard, while neighboring communities may have adopted others. Many of these standards are still in development, and many communities are trying to decide which is appropriate for their local needs.
CUSTOM Building Products continually monitors the developing regulations for sustainable building practices, making sure our products meet these requirements wherever possible. The Emerald System eliminates any concern over meeting the regulation for a particular project. Products in the Emerald System have been formulated to meet the requirements of leading agencies’ sustainability standards.
Lifetime Installation Warranty
It is known fact that ceramic tile and natural stone are amongst the most durable surfacing materials. Ceramic tile is rated to last 60 years, and there are many examples of tile installations lasting centuries.
CUSTOM Building Products understands the importance of durability, and we design products that meet this demand, and provide architects, and owners, peace of mind. Sometimes, there are concerns that the use of low VOC or recycled material may compromise the performance of a product. CUSTOM ensures that all products meet and exceed the applicable industry standard requirements established for tile and stone installation material. In fact, CUSTOM is so confident in the performance of Emerald System products that when a complete Emerald System of products is used for the installation system, it is supported with up to a Lifetime Warranty.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for CUSTOM® Cement Mortars and Grouts
CUSTOM® Building Products is partnered with the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) in efforts to develop and maintain industry-wide EPDs for cement based mortars and grouts for tile and stone installation materials.
EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials – Paints and Coatings and EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials – Adhesives and Sealants
Low volatile organic compound (VOC) emitting materials contribute to better indoor air quality for building constructors, as well as building occupants. In fact, CUSTOM GreenGuard Gold certified products have even lower emissions than industry standard requirements. Even more, once cured, CUSTOM products are inert and will not emit harmful chemical emissions into the indoor environment for the entire lifetime that the CUSTOM installation system is in place.
Additionally, there is one significant change, in LEED v4, that took place in the following category:
MR Credit: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Sourcing of Raw Materials
With eleven manufacturing facilities through North America, CUSTOM consistently strives to locally source, and manufacture, our products whenever possible. However, in LEED v4, projects no longer achieve separate points for regional materials, and the qualifying radius has shrunk significantly, from 500 miles, to 100 miles from the Project site. Also, no longer given their own credit, as was the case in LEED 2009 and earlier, locally-sourced building materials are recognized in LEED v4 as a multiplier. That means that regional credits apply only when products meet the basic credit requirements, such as FSC certification or recycled content.

We are pleased to announce GREENGUARD Gold Certification (which includes California Department of Public Health compliance) for the majority of our products. Both programs have strict volatile organic compounds (VOCs) criteria for the safety of children and other sensitive individuals. These approvals mean that the products contribute to LEED 4 credits under Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
