Technical Data Sheet

Technical/Installation

Suitable Substrates

WALL MUD can be used, with or without the use of metal lath, over the following: Portland cement, plaster, Haydite Block, hollow clay tile, brick and sheetrock.

General Surface Prep

Substrates must be dry and free of grease, oil, dirt, dust and other foreign matter. Cleaning may be accomplished via mechanical sanding, scraping or chipping. When applying over metal lath, make sure lath is properly secured to substrate.

Limitations to the Product

Metal lath must be used on the following: wood, Masonite® , metal and plastics. All substrates must be clean and free from foreign matter. WALL MUD should not be used on exterior applications without protection from rapid dry out. It is not designed for use directly over existing glazed ceramic tile surfaces.

Mixing Procedures

Mix in a clean mortar box using water at the rate of 2 to 2-1/2 gallons (7.6 L to 9.5 L) of water or latex admixture per 45 pound (20.4 kg) bag of WALL MUD. Smaller amounts may be mixed in a 5 gallon (18.9 L) pail using an electric drill at low RPM (150). Let material slake 15 minutes, remix and use.

Application of Product

When using on areas not requiring metal lath, attach your temporary screeds to the surface to be floated in. Screeds are normally spaced approximately 4 feet (1.2 M) apart. Apply WALL MUD to achieve the desired thickness of 3/8" to 5/8" (9.5 to 15.9 mm). The float should be cut vertically and horizontally about every 2 feet (0.61 M). The cuts should correspond to the tile joints. When using WALL MUD on a surface, which has metal lath, the scratch coat is eliminated as you can float the WALL MUD to your desired thickness, to a maximum of 5/8" (15.9 mm). You may proceed to set tile the same day. Precautions should be taken in cold weather. Protect from freezing during the first 72 hours.

Curing of Product

A minimum cure will be obtained in 12 – 24 hours, depending on ambient temperatures.
