MASTIK 500, a Type I mastic, is an excellent acrylic based latex with added polymers specifically designed for use in areas requiring prolonged water resistance.
Installation of ceramic tiles on walls and floors when a short open time is desirable.
Meets or exceeds ANSI A136.1 — 1992 Type I specification.
Use only on structurally sound interior surfaces such as plaster, plasterboard, gypsum wallboard, exterior or marine grade plywood, masonry concrete and WonderBoard® Backerboards, that are not subject to extreme constant moisture.
All grease, calcimine, loose scaly paint, wallpaper, dust, and dirt should be removed before MASTIK 500 is spread. Painted enameled walls and floors must be thoroughly scored or sanded to ensure bond to original base wall and floor. Moisture areas, such as shower and tub enclosures, should be primed by spreading a skim coat of adhesive with the flat side of the trowel. Shower floors and other areas subject to extreme moisture should be installed with thin set mortar. Cut away plaster, or wallboard, etc. 1/2" (13 mm) above tub or shower base and fill with mastic. The adhesive, tile and room should be at least 72° F (22° C) for 48 hours before and after installation. Installations where constant dampness or hydrostatic pressure is present are not recommended.
