FAST-SET 5000 is a sanded thin-set specifically designed for time-critical installations. Grout in just 2 hours, traffic in 6. Polymer-modified for high bond strength. Excellent for commercial use by experienced installers or cold temperature installations.
FAST-SET 5000 is to be used as a bonding mortar for setting vitreous, semi vitreous or absorptive tile in residential and commercial installations. It is good for interior or exterior work and requires no soaking of tiles.
Suitable surfaces, when properly prepared, are plumb and true masonry concrete, ceramic tile, scarified plastic laminates, asbestos-free vinyl flooring, water-resistant wallboard, cured Portland cement mortar beds, Jamo WATERPROOF – WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE and WonderBoard® Backerboard. Suitable backings when in dry areas are exterior grade plywood (interior only) and gypsum wallboard.
All surfaces on which tile is to be set must be dry, structurally sound, free of any dirt or curing compounds, not subject to hydrostatic pressure, and not subject to temperatures below 50° F (10° C) or above 100° F (38° C) deflection not to exceed 1/360 of the span under live or dead load. Surfaces should accept water penetration in order to form a good bond. If water beads, surface contaminates are present and loss of adhesion may occur. The contaminants should be removed before installation. Wood flooring should be a minimum of 1" (2.5 cm) thick and structurally sound with deflection less than L/360. WonderBoard® Backerboard provides an excellent bonding surface: follow manufacturer’s directions. For use over existing ceramic tile, scarify surface of tile then prime with Jamo STAR BOND. Additional installation procedures may be found in the TCA Handbook. Expansion joints, control joints and cold joints should never be bridged with setting material. They must be brought through the tile and filled with an appropriate elastomeric sealant.
May cause eye, skin or lung injury. Contains free silica. Prolonged exposure to dust may cause delayed lung disease (silicosis). May cause cancer based on animal data. Eliminate exposure to dust. Use NIOSH approved dust mask for silica dust. Contains Portland cement. If any cement or cement mixture gets into eyes, flush immediately and repeatedly with water. Cement, mortar, concrete, or grout may cause skin injury. Avoid contact with skin where possible and wash exposed skin areas promptly with water. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
FAST-SET must not be used directly over hardwood, Luan plywood, parquet, particle board, cushion, sponge-back or asbestos-containing vinyl flooring, metal, fiberglass or OSB panels, asphalt sheeting, vinyl covered wallboard, Masonite® , cement asbestos board, painted surfaces, metal, glass or plastic. Improperly cured or wet plywood or hardwood surfaces are not considered suitable substrates. Not recommended for setting green, black or resin-backed marble; instead, use EBM-Lite™ Epoxy Bonding Mortar— 100% Solids. Weight per piece shall be no more than 6 lbs. per sq. ft. (2.72 kg per .09 M2 ) on vertical installations. For heavier tile, the use of clips or fasteners is required. Protect from freezing for the first 72 hours.
Add the contents of the bag to approximately 1 gallon (3.78 L) of clean water suitable for drinking. Mix thoroughly and use immediately; do not allow to slake or stand. Mortar should be of a thick, trowelable consistency. Stir occasionally to maintain consistency, but do not retemper (add more water). If a mechanical mixer is to be used, it must be done at a low RPM (150) so as not to entrap air into the mortar.
Remove any dirt or other foreign material from the area to be tiled. With pressure, apply a skim coat on the substrate using the flat side of the trowel held at 35° to 40° angle to force material into irregularities in the surface for maximum adhesion. With a notch trowel, immediately apply a heavier coat of material leaving enough mortar to provide 100% coverage to the back of the tile. The mortar bed should be 1/8" (3.2 mm thick) after beat in. With high lug tile, back buttering may be required to ensure 100% coverage to the back of the tiles. Periodically pull up and check a recently placed tile to ensure that the proper amount of mortar is being applied. For best results, cover only a small area at a time with this mix. Do not spread more material than can be tiled in 10 minutes or less. Then immediately cover this with tile and beat in the tile. Once initial set has taken place do not vibrate or beat the tile or its backing. Material in bucket will remain workable for approximately 30 minutes.
A minimum cure will be obtained in 2 – 4 hours depending on ambient temperatures and humidity. Normal grouting should be done 2 – 4 hours after initial set. Allow installation to cure an additional 3 – 4 hours before exposing to heavy traffic.
Water is all that will be needed to remove uncured mortar from the tile surface or tools.

Approximately 45 – 55 sq. ft. per 25 pounds (4.18 – 5.10 M2 per 11.34 kg) bag when applied with a 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4" (6 x 6 x 6 mm) square-notch trowel.
