Maintenance Mechanic / PLC Programmer (Bell, CA)

Custom Building Products is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic / PLC Programmer for our Bell, CA facility.  This position will be responsible troubleshooting all problems with plant production machinery and building related assets.  Perform preventive maintenance on systems including mechanical and electrical equipment such as motors, pneumatics, conveyor systems, production machinery and general facility equipment.  This position will also work on capital expense/new installation projects, etc. Must be responsible that each job is performed safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • Support daily plant operations through effective troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing production equipment including but not limited to industrial blenders, industrial mixers, packaging equipment, pneumatics, conveyor systems and general facility equipment adhering to all policies, procedures and instructions
  • Responsible for preventative and predictive maintenance equipment.  Conducts equipment audits, maintains equipment inventory, maintains records of operations and reports deficiencies to Maintenance Manager
  • Responsible for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs
  • Responsible for capital expense/new installation projects
  • Actively comply with and enforce all safety policies and procedures with direct reports and contractors.  Take appropriate action to eliminate all unsafe acts or conditions
  • Maximize equipment reliability by effectively performing assigned work orders and PMs.  Ensure complete and effective repairs.  Proactively initiate work orders based on PM observations or measurements
  • Will be a team player proactively supporting team building initiatives, sharing best practices and innovative ideas for improvement and communicating with others in a courteous and professional manner

Requirement Skills

  • Strong PLC, electrical controls including design & installation of conduit, wire, networking and control devices required.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills to repair and maintain fast-paced production lines
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred
  • 5 years of related applicable experience in a heavy industrial environment experienced with PLC, electrical/mechanical and pneumatics with mixing and conveying equipment
  • Excellent fabricating skills and able to read blueprints
  • High school degree or equivalent & excellent math skills
  • Thorough knowledge of standard maintenance practices, methods, tools, knowledge of occupational hazards and possesses experience with OSHA safety training
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good/strong communication skills
  • Position shift requires flexibility into any shift when needed.  Must be available to work overtime and/or on short notice. In addition, must be available for callback problems if they occur.
