CP-WE Polymer-Modified Water-Based Epoxy Primer

CP-WE is a polymer-modified water-based epoxy primer and sealer that prepares non-porous surfaces such as moisture remediation barriers, ceramic tiles, metals, well-bonded cutback adhesives and plywood or OSB surfaces for the application of an appropriate CUSTOM® self-leveling underlayment. It seals porous surfaces and improves the bond of the underlayment to the surface.

General Surface Prep

Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, sealers, adhesives or any other contaminant that would prevent a good bond. Refer to the appropriate CUSTOM® self-leveling underlayment technical data sheet for details on bonding to specific substrates.

Health Precautions

Contains acrylic emulsion, epoxy resin and amine hardener.  Wear suitable gloves and eye protection and use in an area with proper ventilation.  Avoid eye contact and contact with skin.  If eye contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and consult a physician. If skin contact occurs, wash immediately with soap and water. Dried material is extremely difficult to remove. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY.

Limitations to the Product

  • CP-WE should not be installed at temperatures below 50°F (10°C) or above 90°F (32°C).
  • Concrete tensile strength must be greater than 200 psi (1.4 N/mm2).
  • MVER of concrete must be less than 3 lbs/day/1000 sq ft (ASTM F1869) or 75% rh (ASTM F2170).
  • Substrate must be free of bond-inhibiting or bond-breaking materials such as curing compounds, oil, grease and wax.
  • Repair all dormant or non-moving cracks with FeatherPatch or GeneralPatchbefore installation of CP-E as a primer.
  • Honor all expansion and control joints, through primer and underlayment.
  • Do not bond to hardwood, Luan plywood, particle board, parquet, sheet vinyl, cushion or sponge-back vinyl flooring, metal, fiberglass or plastic.

Mixing Ratios

Mix equal amounts of parts A and B (1:1) by volume.

Mixing Procedures

CP-WE is supplied as a two-part unit that consists of one gallon part A (blue color) and one gallon part B (off-white color). Transfer entire contents of part A and part B into a clean 3.5 gallon container. Mix using a jiffy mixing paddle at slow speed (300-500 rpm) for approximate 2 minutes, then stop mixing. Scrape the sides of the container and mix for an additional 30 seconds to obtain a smooth consistency.

Application of Product

USE CHEMICAL-RESISTANT GLOVES, such as nitrile, when handling product.

Apply with a paint brush or short nap roller. Apply a thin, even coat; do not allow puddling. Apply or discard excess primer within 3 hours after mixing.  Allow to dry to a clear film (1 to 3 hours, depending on ambient conditions) before applying an appropriate CUSTOM® self-leveling underlayment. If the self-leveling underlayment is not poured over the primed surface within 24 hrs, re-prime with a very thin coat of CP-WE.

Cleaning of equipment

Clean with water before the material dries.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry area. Keep from freezing.
